Buck Creek Players, the award-winning all-volunteer community theater on Indianapolis' southeast-side, will complete its thirty-fourth season of quality theatre, A Salute to Mom & Dad, with the BCP Playhouse Players Youth Production, Fiddler on the Roof Junior, written by Joseph Stein (book), Jerry Bock (music) and Sheldon Harnick (lyrics). Originally entitled Tevye, Fiddler on the Roof is based on Tevye and his Daughters and other tales by Sholem Aleichem which he wrote in Yiddish and published in 1894.
Attempting to live a normal life filled with Jewish traditions in early twentieth century Russia, Tevye (Peter Meyer), a poor dairyman, and his wife Golde (Kayla Wigginton) are searching for appropriate husbands for their three eldest daughters -- Tzeitel (Kristin McSweeney), Hodel (Sara Hollowell) and Chava (Hattie King). In a break of tradition, his daughters refuse to accept the wishes of the matchmaker, Yente (Emily Robbins), and their parents. Instead, they marry men that they love. Meanwhile, Russians are instigating terrible pogroms against the Jewish people in Russia. In the end, the Jews of Anatevka are forced to leave their homes and Tevye is determined to make a brand new life in the New World. Rounding out the cast are Hunter Best, Jacqueline Booher, Paige Brown, Matthew Conwell, Annie Evans, Josiah Hawkins, Hannah Haydock, Vaughn Knutson, Ethan Litt, David Mendoza, Kellin Miller, Kaity Paternoga, Craig Patterson, Morgan Ray, Alexis Rouse, Grant Russel, Abigail Smith, Aden Smith and Ashlyn Smith.
Kari Ann Stamatoplos returns to the playhouse to direct this showcase of area youth talent after directing this season's opening drama, Defying Gravity, by Jane Anderson. Joining Stamatoplos on the production staff are Dan Denniston and Denise A. Fort (Producers), Carrie S. Neal (Vocal Director), Cathy Cutshall (Choreographer), Lea Viney (Set Designer), Linda Rowand (Costumer), Greg Howard (Assistant Director) and Melissa DeVito (Properties).
