Some of you may think she didn't mean whitewater driving did she, maybe whitewater rafting. No, it is whitewater driving as named by Hannah as we were driving to the mall, of all places. It was pouring down rain and we thought of staying home, but said "we can make it to the mall and be in where it is nice and dry". We needed to pick up a few things for school. Well, the 15 minute drive to the mall turned out to be at least 30 minutes with part of the trip seeming like we were floating down a river. The picture to the right is what was left of we think a tree that was struck by lightening and fell on an electrical wire. When we came upon it the first time we had to take a detour (notice the police car in one of the pictures below) From where we were it looked like it was on fire and all of a sudden it would spark and glow and then die down again. By the time we left the mall (about 3 hours later) this is what it looked like. They still had cars detouring away from it. Notice the water at the back of the SUV in front of us. It was pretty deep. We saw some smaller cars that weren't so lucky. I definately had flashbacks to when Tom and I floated our Accord in Louisville during a flash flood quite a few years ago.Looking at the photos you can get the idea where Hannah thought of whitewater "driving".

This looks like a nice babbling brook, no this was the ditch along the road on Stop 12 with assorted other pictures taken along the way.

Detour
For those of you who know where St. Francis South Campus is, know that this isn't how it should look. This was nothing compared to how it was on the way to the mall. The water was all the way across the other lane and into ours with water on the other side too. It looked like we were floating down the river! The rain coming down in buckets sideways didn't help either. :-) It sounds kind of scary, but through it all I told Hannah to pray that God would help us. She also quoted one of my favorite books as a child, "The Little Engine That Could" I think we can, I think we can. Grandma Graham would have been proud. :-) Although I think her main objective was to get to the mall; something else Grandma Graham would have been proud of! I didn't just acquire this shopping thing, it was definately a learned habit, which I have since passed down to Hannah. :-) Next time though, I think we'll just wait at home until the rain stops. :-)
